Individual Wellbeing

Health Promotions & Accessories

To compliment our personal training and lifestyle analysis programmes we can provide you with a selection of accessories that allow you to further take control of your wellbeing whether in your gym, in your work place or at home!

For example if you are concerned or want to know more about your body fat percentage, we can jointly decide what piece of monitoring equipment is best for you, supply it, show you how to use it and incorporate it in to your program! And by documenting the results (of whichever risk factor we are monitoring) see the progress you are making in terms of taking direct control of your wellbeing and actually preventing illness.

We are also developing a tonic Optimal Health Journal. Plus - coming soon... we are creating our own series of themed music CD's!

  • Relaxing tonic
  • De-stressing tonic
  • Inspirational tonic

There are excessive numbers of organisations out there, each suggesting their products are the best, so tonic will help you with this decision making and source the best product(s) for you. Our know-how is continually developing but already covers key accessories;

Participation in such monitoring (for which ever risk factor) although not essential is very effective in health risk appraisal. Plus the log that we create will be invaluable to further manage your health quickly and accurately (should the need arise) in the future!

Body Fat Monitors

Considerable health risks are associated with obesity and high body fat percentages, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Increasingly health professionals consider high body fat percentages to be the most serious problems of the 21st century! (See tonic Risk Factors guides for more detailed information).

The method that we support at tonic (to determine someone's body composition) is non-invasive and uses an electronic device. It works out the body composition by measuring the conductance of the body. (There are however various products available in the market place).

The monitor provides you with your personal bodyguard against high fat percentages. These types of sophisticated devices allow you to monitor your personal body fat percentage enabling you, if / when necessary, to modify your lifestyle, stay healthy and prevent illness!

Pedometers

One of the key behavioural factors that impacts directly on your wellbeing is ACTIVITY. Walking at a moderate pace for 30-60 minutes burns stored fat and can build muscle which in turn helps to speed up your metabolism! Activity in the form of regular exercise (and that includes walking) will contribute to reducing your risk of disease. And, exercise is also a key trigger for body repair and maintenance.

A pedometer senses your body motion and counts your footsteps. By simply pre-programming your stride length (which we can help you do) the pedometer converts this count to distance! Wearing a pedometer and recording your daily steps is a great motivating tool. Again there are various models available in the market place, some talk to you, some with built-in radios; we will help select which is the best model for you!

Blood Pressure Monitors

Measuring your blood pressure (BP) at home and keeping a record of the measurements will show you how much it changes over a period of time (a day, a week, a month). BP is known as one of the silent killers. This monitoring will draw your attention to your BP. So if you have sustained elevated hypertension, it will be detected and you will be able to do something about it. Blood pressure should be checked at regular intervals to ensure it remains within normal limits. To measure your blood pressure at home, we suggest the easiest tool is a digital monitor.

If this risk factor is a concern for you then this monitoring process can be incorporated directly into your assessment program and Journal. Plus if you have particular doubts and go on to contact your GP the log we have created will be invaluable in their subsequent diagnostic processes.

As activity and diet affect your BP, so does stress. So to help combat the effects of stress, try relaxation techniques or biofeedback.

Stress Monitors

Considerable health risks are associated with stress. (See tonic Risk Factors guides for more detailed information) Stress can be a major problem for many individuals and sustained high stress levels can lead to increased risk of developing life threatening situations. It must not be ignored and importantly we all should develop stress coping skills. The first step however is to take a measure.

The stress thermometer (that we have sourced from the US) is a low cost biofeedback stress management tool that can be used in the home or workplace. It uses skin temperature as a measure of tension / relaxation. As your hands get warmer, your tension level goes down. The easy to use thermometer displays accurate digital temperature readings making self-regulation easy. Again we can incorporate the readings from your stress thermometer into your program to monitor your progress!
